Lead Poisoning Investigations
Children with elevated levels of lead in their blood have more
difficulty learning, and developing than other children. Public
Health Programs in the area screen children under the age of six for
elevated blood lead levels. If a child is determined to have high
levels, the Environmental Health Department provides an inspection of
the child’s home to determine where the lead is, and makes
recommendations on how to get rid of it. In some cases, children
cannot be treated to lead poisoning until the home is “lead safe.”
In such cases, the EHD will monitor the progress of repairs, and
certify that the home has been made safe.
