Jeremy Douglas met with the Board to discuss funding for the Water Rescue Volunteers. The six-member group assists other dive teams throughout the state. They also do mutual aid with Boone, Story, Sioux and Plymouth counties. The group recently purchased a sonar device with GPS technology that allows the group to cover 80 acres per hour as opposed to a quarter of an acre per hour without the equipment. The equipment was purchased from Blackhawk Marine at a cost of $1500, with another $509 for installation and setup. The Carroll Fire Association donated $1500 towards the purchase and the group is requesting $500 from Carroll County for the remainder of the cost. Douglas said insurance and inspections run approximately $2000/year. In addition, the gas price for an average recovery is $150. Much of the expense for equipment and clothing is paid for by the volunteers.
